Unique Global Identifiers (UGI)

The Hospitality Identifier initiative was chartered by four major non-profit industry organizations* to solve the problem of definitely identifying specific lodging facilities, so that critical changes, such as rebranding, may be instantly communicated to all connected partners.

What is a Hospitality Identifier?

The identifier will be permanently assigned to lodging establishments in order to uniquely identify them. It will persist over time, regardless of changes to name, brand, management or processing relationships (e.g. reservations, payments). An independent not-for-profit platform will ensure that each property can control its own data.

How Will it Work?

The Hospitality ID will provide visibility to any interested party of accurate status and ongoing changes. It will enable any system that has its own property ID codes to map them to any other system, without errors, and with automatic updates as properties change names, affiliations, etc. The ID will also enable automated updates for partners and suppliers when processing relationships change, and provide immediate visibility of changes to the billable customer of record.

  • Soon After Launch: Over time, as lodging establishments take ownership of their data, they may also specify processing relationships for content, reservations, payments, commissions, etc.
  • Future Opportunities: Future Hospitality ID enhancements will enable such things as the identification of authorized content repositories, API endpoints and authenticated processing resources for related services.
