HTNG is moving information technology in hospitality
forward by bringing all industry
constituencies--hoteliers, vendors, consultants and
others--together to address the most pressing needs.
The method by which HTNG is attacking this problem is
Workgroups.
What's a Workgroup?
Workgroups are groups of
HTNG member companies, typically numbering 10 to 25
but sometimes more, chartered with addressing a specific business or
technical problem. Hotel companies (technology buyers)
and vendors (technology sellers) work together to solve
the problem and implement one or more solution(s).
Other industry participants (consultants, academics,
media) may also participate.
A key difference between
HTNG and other industry organizations is that HTNG's
focus is facilitating the creation of industry
solution sets. Workgroups are not think
tanks or standards bodies. They may produce
white papers, specifications, and other documents, but
these are simply means to achieving their primary
objective.
HTNG's workgroup process is
inclusive of all HTNG members. Moreover, small and
large companies participate on an equal footing - one
company, one vote.
Workgroups often form
subgroups, called teams, to address more granular
problems. Workgroups that get too large to be
productive form teams to subdivide the work, but still
meet periodically to set priorities, to monitor
progress, and to brainstorm new projects. Smaller
workgroups may still form teams to capture distinctive
points of view or to focus on specific portions of a
solution. For more information about joining a team,
