Marketing Resources for HTNG Members

Following are some of the marketing opportunities HTNG provides to Industry Partner members (that's the term HTNG uses for providers of technology products and services).

HTNG Logos for Member Use

Advertise your commitment to moving the industry forward through HTNG by displaying the HTNG logo on your website, in your marketing collateral, and in your sales presentations.

  • Platinum members can display this "Platinum Member" logo.  JPG GIF EPS

  • Other members can display this "Member" logo.  JPG GIF EPS

  • If you need an HTNG logo to use in a context not related to your membership, you can use this plain logo instead.  JPG EPS

  • Please download and read the usage guidelines before using the HTNG logo!

The HTNG logo is a trademark of Hotel Technology Next Generation.  HTNG licenses its current members to use the plain logo and the "Member" logo, and licenses its Platinum members to use the "Platinum Member" logo, for the sole purpose of communicating their membership in HTNG, subject to placement in accordance with the usage guidelines.  If the HTNG membership underlying your use of the logo expires, you must cease using the logo on newly printed materials immediately, and must remove unlicensed logos from electronic materials within 30 days.

Certification Program

Differentiate your products from your competitors!  The HTNG Certification Program allows vendors to certify products against publicly released HTNG specifications.

Upon achieving certification, you will be licensed to use the "HTNG Certified" logo in your advertising and collateral material, and to claim that your product is HTNG certified.

Certification requires conformance of your product to technical specifications.  The two application areas where the HTNG specifications are reasonably complete involve the following business processes and systems.

  • Reservations processing (e.g. central reservations, channel managers, web booking sites/engines, property management systems, revenue management systems)

  • Guest itinerary processing at a complex resort-type property (property management, dining reservations, point of sale, golf tee-time, spa, activity management, etc.)

Additional specifications are under development.  The existing HTNG specifications do support limited functionality of some systems other than the types mentioned above, but in most cases this support will be so limited that certification will provide little or no value to your customers - in this case we recommend that you wait until specifications more relevant to your products are ready.

The HTNG Certified label is very powerful, but must be used with great care, because false or misleading claims will be strictly enforced under trademark law.  HTNG certification applies to specific versions of specific products (or combinations of products).  You may only use the logo or the "HTNG Certified" claims with respect to the certified products.  If, for example, you use it on a general marketing brochure or trade show signage, then you must clearly indicate which products are HTNG Certified, and may not imply that any other products are HTNG Certified.

To learn more about certification, to apply for certification, or to see what products are already certified, visit the HTNG Certification Site.

The certification logo is a registered trademark of The Open Group, which serves as the Certification Authority for HTNG.

Referencing HTNG in Press Releases and Collateral - DOs and DON'Ts

You are more than welcome to include factual statements about your company's HTNG involvement in press releases and collateral material.  Examples of things you may include without prior approval (assuming they are true!):

  • [Company] is a member of Hotel Technology Next Generation, an industry trade association dedicated to fostering the development of next-generation technologies

    • You may say "active member" only if your company regularly attends meetings of one or more HTNG workgroups or teams.

    • You may say "Platinum Member" if you are a platinum member.

  • [Company's] flagship product, [Product name and version], are certified to the HTNG [product specification name].

    • The product name and product specification name must be identical to those stated in the HTNG Register of Certified Products at www.opengroup.org/htng/cert.

  • [Company] has joined the HTNG [xyz] workgroup, in order to...

  • [Company] has been actively working with the HTNG [xyz] workgroup and is now adapting its products to implement the draft specification.

  • [Company] has contributed its specifications for [xyz] for use by the HTNG [xyz] workgroup.

  • [Person] from [Company] has [been active in, chaired, co-chaired, etc.] the HTNG [xyz] workgroup.

Except as specifically permitted below, you may not make statements that:

  • State or imply compliance or conformance with any HTNG specifications, except as specifically authorized by a Trademark License Agreement signed under the HTNG Certification Program

    • Where authorized, remember that in materials that are not specific to a particular, HTNG certified product, you must clearly delineate that certification claims refer only to specific products that have been certified

  • Include statements about what you have done with HTNG copyrighted specifications, without written approval

    • This includes claims such as an interface being "based on" an HTNG specification

  • Quote HTNG staff or board members without written approval

  • State or imply actions taken by HTNG with respect to your company, without HTNG's written approval.

    • Phrases such as "HTNG selected," "HTNG recognized," "HTNG appointed," "HTNG named," and similar constructions imply actions on our part that require approval

    • You may, however, without approval, state that HTNG certified (or granted certification, or awarded certification, or similar language) one or more of your products, as long as you follow the guidelines for certification claims outlined above.

Requests for approval of quotes and/or statements of HTNG actions with respect to your company should be directed to membership@htng.org

Please feel free to compose a quote from an HTNG officer or director if you believe it is relevant; if you do this, you need the permission of BOTH the individual AND HTNG.

Before you send it to us, ask yourself whether you would want HTNG to approve an identical quote for one of your competitors.  If the answer is no, then we will probably have to ask you to reword it.

  • We will not generally permit any quote that implies that your product or service is superior, high-quality, etc.

    • Exception:  If your product is HTNG-certified, we may approve a quote that touts the value of HTNG certification to a buyer, thus differentiating all HTNG certified products (including yours) from non HTNG certified products.

  • It is difficult but not impossible for us to approve quotes about the value of specific contributions your company has made to an HTNG workgroup.  We may need a vote or consent from the workgroup, and unless it has already been discussed and minuted at a workgroup meeting, this may take considerable time (weeks or months).

Conference Marketing Opportunities

HTNG organizes two annual membership conferences, one in North America and one in Europe, that draw the most senior-level attendance of any hospitality technology event anywhere.  At HTNG conferences, you won't find the usual trade-show crowds of unqualified buyers.  Rather, you will find an intimate setting where the most senior hotel company technology executives gather with the vendor community in a single room for education, networking, qualifying of vendors, and prospecting for customers.

Many members say they get more marketing value from simply attending the HTNG conference than from any other event in the industry.  Others want an opportunity to have their company name associated with these high-profile events.  For those, we have several opportunities:

  • Sponsorships

  • Exhibit tables

  • Scheduled vendor presentations in breakout sessions

Speaking opportunities at HTNG conferences include:

  • Each workgroup presents its own material, and chooses its presenters from among its active members.

  • Top-level sponsorships include a five-minute commercial message in the general session

  • Thought leadership presentations.  Proposals are solicited for particular subjects and evaluated by an advisory committee for selection.  Only a small percentage of proposals received can be considered.  While HTNG and the advisory committee have considerable discretion, the majority of accepted proposals from Industry Partners are likely to fall into one of these categories:

    • World-class experts speaking on a specific subject

    • Case studies presented by hoteliers (which may include participation by the vendors involved)

    • Sessions led by a neutral party involving multiple vendors, often with competing solutions to a problem

    • Technologies that genuinely qualify as next-generation breakthroughs

    • Proposed speakers are recognized technical experts within their company

Proposals focused on a specific existing product or vendor implementation will generally NOT be considered for the thought leadership program unless a hotelier leads the session.

Trade Shows

HTNG produces "common" collateral that can be used at major industry trade shows.  We make these materials available to member companies for major trade shows such as HITEC, through communications to the marketing contacts at all Industry Partner member companies.  Most of these materials can be made available on request for use at other trade shows as well.

  • HTNG member signage for your booth.  We have some standard signage available on request, or you can incorporate the artwork into your own graphics.  Artwork for members is available here; a special version is available for Platinum members.

  • HTNG Lapel pins are available for member booth personnel.

  • HTNG Ambassador buttons (for individuals who have been actively involved with HTNG workgroups)
