Is That Product "HTNG Compliant"?

In recent months, it has come to our attention that a number of companies are claiming to be compliant, or even certified, with HTNG specifications. While there are, in fact, numerous HTNG-certified products, we are seeing an increasing number of claims that are simply false. HTNG takes appropriate action to protect our trademark whenever we learn of these situations. Hotels and vendors alike should know that for any official, certifiable HTNG specification, there is no such thing as "HTNG compliant;" a product is either certified, or it is not. Certification is an important process in which vendors may discover problems with their implementation that require adjustments; most non-certified products are likely to violate one or more of the conformance requirements. Furthermore, without certification, the vendor hasn't agreed to participate in the mandatory process for rectifying errors that may be discovered later.

The bottom line with vendor claims is: trust but verify. To help you verify, visit the current list of HTNG certified products at the public HTNG Register of Certified Products.

Become A Member

HTNG membership provides the opportunity to define, develop, implement, and promote the next generation of hotel technology. Membership in HTNG is open to any person or organization with an interest in advancing information technology in hospitality. The HTNG by-laws establish three classes of membership, and one subclass, as follows:

  • Hospitality Members: Organizations that actively provide hospitality services to end consumers as a primary business, or individuals currently employed by such organizations. Only Regular Members are eligible to run for officer and director positions in HTNG. Membership is per individual ($325 per year) or per company ($3,500 per year for the entire company or $1,750 per year for five individuals).

  • Corporate Industry Partner Members: Organizations who provide technology and/or distribution-related products and/or services to the hospitality industry.  Membership applies to the entire organization. For 2010, the rates are $3,500 for regular membership with participation in one forum, $4,250 for regular membership with participation in both forums, $6,750 for Platinum membership (includes participation in all forums), and $50,000 for Benefactor membership (includes all forums).

  • Industry Partner Members (Reduced Rate): Service consultants who work in companies (including affiliates) with fewer than five employees are eligible for a reduced-rate individual membership for $325 per year. This membership is not available to employees of companies who offer technology products or technology-based services. Includes membership in both forums, but fees apply for participation in face-to-face forum meetings.

  • Allied Members: Individuals whose interest in the industry is fundamentally informational rather than economic, including specifically—but not limited to—students, academics, media representatives, and representatives of trade organizations; but specifically excluding individuals who qualify for other membership categories. Membership is $50 per year, and applications subject to approval of HTNG. Media memberships are complimentary to approved media representatives, and a special student rate of $15 per year applies to full-time students enrolled in accredited hospitality or technology programs. Professional and trade associations can qualify for a free membership based on reciprocal interest. Includes membership in both forums, but fees may apply for participation in face-to-face forum meetings.

Note that the above pricing structure reflects changes for 2010. Detailed information is available on our member benefits page. Membership application can be submitted online.
