  • Agenda Summary

    • Updates from all five HTNG workgroups

    • A recognized technology futurist will paint a picture of technologies that will likely be commonplace in 5-10 years, and discuss their implications for our daily lives, our careers, and our companies

    • HTNG Certification program and the first "HTNG Certified Products"

    • HTNG Leadership Awards

    HTNG Thought Leadership Program Topic:

"SOA and SaaS:  Myth and Reality?"

Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and its stepchild Software as a Service (SaaS, also sometimes referred to as Web 2.0) are some of the most talked-about trends in the technology world today, and are changing the way many technologists think about complex systems that need to work together.  Much of the press is simply rhetoric, and technology industry conferences on the topics have been dubbed by many to be "pure vendor hype."  We've done our best to put together a program to get beyond the hype, and to help you understand a few key things that every technologist - and every business person who works in a technology-intensive business - should know:

    • What are SOA and SaaS, and why do some people think they can change our world?  Why are others skeptical?

    • How mature are SOA and SaaS?  What will be the impact of investments by major platform vendors over time?

    • What are the costs, risks, and benefits of SOA and SaaS?

    • Who is actually gaining business benefit, and how much?

    • Who is succeeding or failing in implementing these concepts, and why?

    • What, if anything, should you do about SOA and SaaS when you return to your office on March 8?

Our program will include five thought-provoking sessions with industry-leading speakers from throughout the technology world, including

    • The research director from a leading research group will present the overall landscape of SOA and SaaS/Web 2.0 in the broad technology world

    • The Principal Architect from an industry-leading technology company will talk about long-term expectations for the future direction and adoption of SOA-based

    • CIO/CTOs of major companies that have embarked on the SOA and/or SaaS bandwagons, talking about the myths, realities, benefits, and challenges

    • Senior technology executives from the hotel industry, who will provide perspectives from companies that have SOA-based technology visions

    • Technical leaders from the hotel technology vendor community who are actively architecting or re-architecting their products around SOA and SaaS
